The county is situated in the U.S state of Missouri. The county was established on December 31, 1838. The county’s name derived from the word, Platte being French for a low, shallow or intermittent stream. In 2000, the county has a population of 73,781 according to U.S. Census. Platte City is the county seat. It is part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.
Platte County is the home for Kansas City International Airport.

The county has a total area of 427 square miles where 429 square miles is of land and while 7 square miles is composed of water. Adjacent counties includes Buchanan County in the north, Clinton from Northeast side, East is Clay County, Jackson County in Southeast, Wyandotte County is in South of Platte County.
